WHO IS CALD ?
The term CALD stands for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and for the purposes of CALDERN, a CALD workplace means having employees or volunteers who:
1. Are from different countries, including other English-speaking countries, and/or
2.Have different cultural backgrounds and/or
3.Can speak other languages besides English and/or
4.Follow different religions, traditions, values and beliefs.
Specifically, CALD includes persons who have migrated to countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The definition includes Anglo-Saxons, Celtic people and others.
In the Australian context it is essential to recognise the significance of First Nations people who have unique needs and experiences which may reflect those of persons of CALD backgrounds.
There are numerous references to CALD definitions and the development of this term which are included below.
Despite the Emergency Responder representation list CALDERN welcomes any person from whatever background who supports its objectives, rules and code of conduct as listed on the Home page.
You do not have to come from a CALD background to be a member of CALDERN.
